Timothy D. Herndon is a Certified Public Accountant as well as a Chartered Global Management Accountant and currently serves as the Corporate Controller for The Colonial Company and its Subsidiaries.
Tim earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Auburn University in 1994 and went on to pursue his master’s degree at Auburn University Montgomery where he graduated in 1998. During his 28-year career, Tim has served as an accounting professional across a wide array of industries. He has served over 10 years in the banking industry through various roles in management for accounting and financial reporting, regulatory reporting, as well as mortgage accounting.
Tim has served as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a former Montgomery, Alabama-based convenience store operation where he was directly responsible for all aspects of the financial operations of the business which included, but not limited to, financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, maintaining banking relationships, working with legal counsel, as well as maintaining numerous vendor relationships.
For the last 15 years, Tim has been actively serving as the Corporate Controller for The Colonial Company - a diversified holding company also based in Montgomery, AL, where he is directly responsible for the oversight of all the Company’s consolidated financial accounting and reporting operations encompassing various companies and lines of business. His current duties include direct supervision of accounting personnel, financial accounting and reporting, cash management, accounting systems, internal controls, and financial modeling/analysis, just to name a few!
Over the course of his career, Tim has improved efficiencies in practically every role he has had the privilege to serve. Automating processes and procedures has been a major area of focus throughout his career, which he thoroughly enjoys. Tim has played a key role in implementing new accounting systems, financial models, and numerous spreadsheet-based analysis tools, all of which have improved the quality and accuracy of financial reporting and the efficiency and timeliness in which tasks can be accomplished. In his current position as Corporate Controller for The Colonial Company, Tim played a major role in helping the Company navigate challenging times during the economic crisis beginning in 2008, specifically its impact on the housing industry which is the primary and most profitable line of business of the largest of the Company’s subsidiaries – Lowder New Homes, Inc. Tim was able to use his experience and strengths in financial management and analysis to help with company financial modeling, asset management, corporate strategy, and many other skills which proved invaluable to the overall achievement of company goals and success during this difficult time period.
In his private life, Tim has been married to Beth Herndon, his wife of 26 years. He is also the proud father of two current Auburn University students, Dean 22, and Rebecca 20. Tim is an avid sports fan and loves all things Auburn! From football to basketball, to baseball, he can’t seem to get enough of his Tigers! He also enjoys his life-long passion for tennis and actively participates in various leagues and tournaments and has been doing so since his youth. Tim is very involved in his church First United Methodist of Montgomery, where he has attended most of his adult life. To relax, Tim loves spending time at the beach and mountains with family and friends.
