James K. Lowder graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Auburn University in 1972. He is actively engaged in the construction, development, and real estate sales businesses in Montgomery and the Southeast. Lowder Construction Company/Lowder New Homes have been named several times to the Builder 100 by Builder Magazine and the Giant 400 by Professional Builder and Remodeler.

 Mr. Lowder’s activities and organizations include:
1.     Long-term, Recent and Former Member of Board of Directors of Alabama Power Company.
2.     Director of Mid-America Apartment Communities, Inc.
3.     Past President and Lifetime Director of Citywide Board of Montgomery YMCA.
4.     YMCA Endowment Foundation Board
5.     Past Chairman of Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, 1998.
6.     Member of Committee of 100, the business development organization for the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce.  Served as Chairman, 1995.
7.     Member of  the Board of Directors of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival
8.     Trustee, Alabama Shakespeare Endowment.
9.     Past Chairman for Montgomery Area United Way Campaign, 1989
10.  Past President of Montgomery Auburn Club.
11.  Past Chairman of Alex De Tocqueville Society for Montgomery United Way, 1995-1996.
12.  Member of Home Builders Association of Alabama and Greater Montgomery Home Builders Association.  Served as President of the Montgomery Association in 1979.
13.  Member of the Board of Directors of Leadership Montgomery, 1993-1994;  2000-2002.
14.  Former Member of the Board of Directors of Colonial Properties Trust and AlaTrust, Inc.

The Colonial Company was honored as the “Philanthropic Corporation” of the Year in 1998 for Central Alabama by the National Society of Fund Raising Executives. The Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts presented the Colonial Company with the 1997 Business in the Arts Award and in 2000 with the coveted Frank Plummer Memorial Arts Award for lifetime achievement. In addition, Mr. Lowder was elected Man of the Year by the YMCA youth of Montgomery in 1992 and was inducted into the Lanier High School Hall of Fame in 1997.  In 2001 Mr. Lowder was the recipient of the local Alexis de Tocqueville Award.  Mr. Lowder was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Greater Montgomery Home Builders Association in 2004.
